It has been my pleasure to be able to shoot photos for Gateway Indoor Percussion this year! The young women and men astound me with their dedication and passion for the sport.
This is my second season volunteering with this amazing world class organization. I've learned so much and i'm so blessed to be able to spend time with them and to share a little of my talent in repayment of their generosity of passion and energy.
Some people see them perform for 10 minutes on show days – I am blessed to spend hours at a time with them and see how they grow together as family and as they encourage (and tease the heck out of) each other thru the season of long practices and glorious shows. For a guy like me who marched bass and snare drums 35 some odd years ago and was embraced then by the most amazing family of friends, I have an inkling of what it is like for the young people of Gateway to spend time together. And it is such a joy to be able to feel that passion again thru these kids.
While it is great to be able to show some “wide” group shots, what I love most is being able to create these ‘action portraits' while they practice and perform – showing their personalities and humanity as they go thru this grueling season.
Photos are available here on my smugmug account. There are many many more images in the gallery than you've seen before and I certainly didn't use them all in the slideshows.
Prints are available there as well as crazy things like mugs, mousepads and more. Any profits will go directly to Gateway – I will not earn a dime from any of these activities (unless you want to hire me for a private portrait shoot or some crazy tropical vacation shoot (grin) email me if you do!).
Note… the young people are welcome to post the images on their social media – but it would be nice if you'd link to this post or planetMitch.com please.
First is a short 3 minute video I made from photos I shot 2016-04-02 at the MCCGA state finals in springfield. The second video is about 10 minutes and includes everything else.
All videos are available in 4k if you have the bandwidth – just click the settings and pick it.
If you'd have any interest in seeing what I did last year, they're here:
